Heamadhaar is an anti-sickling agent, specifically a herbal formulation designed for the management of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD). The herbal drug composition comprises a blend of dried extracts from Thinopyrum intermedium (wheatgrass), Punica granatum (pomegranate peel), Rubia cordifolia (Indian madder stem), and Aegle marmelos (Indian bael leaf). This formulation exhibits both individual and synergistic pharmacological properties that address various pathophysiological processes associated with SCD. It demonstrates significant in vitro inhibition of hemoglobin polymerization, enhances hemoglobin S (HbS) affinity for oxygen, and improves membrane stability of sickled red blood cells (RBCs), thereby offering protection against oxidative damage. This makes the formulation beneficial in managing hypoxia and serving as an effective anti-sickling agent for comprehensive SCD treatment.
